This review assesses the fourth installment, second part, of the Atlas of the Republic of Austria, published in 1969. Its nine maps range from relatively straightforward administrative, agricultural, and municipal-tax presentations to methodologically ambitious treatments of gravity anomalies, hydrogeology, tourism, and commuting. Particular attention is given to the visual techniques used to combine absolute values, relative indicators, functional types, spatial intensity, and temporal change. Although the tourism map requires careful study because of its dense layering of symbols and poorly differentiated gray tones, it successfully reveals distinct tourism regions. The commuting maps likewise provide detailed representations of labor flows and economic centers, despite some readability limitations. With this installment, 83 plates—approximately two-thirds of the planned atlas—had been published.
