This review evaluates the 1965 second installment of the Atlas of the Republic of Austria, comprising 21 thematic maps across nearly all planned sections. It examines their scientific content and cartographic execution, highlighting innovative treatments of geology, mineral resources, climate, hydrography, Roman topography, dialect change, industrial locations, transport, and central-place structure. Consistent industrial mapping and the survey-based hierarchy of central places are identified as major strengths, particularly for spatial planning. Some shortcomings are noted: color interference in resource maps, excessive symbolic complexity in the education map, and inconsistencies in the trade and finance map. Overall, the installment represents an outstanding scientific, cartographic, and printing achievement and confirms the atlas’s emerging status among the world’s leading national atlases.
