Literature: Atlas of the Czechoslovak Republic

This is a summary of two book reviews. The first reviews the Atlas of the Czechoslovak Republic (published 1936), a comprehensive work by the Czech Academy containing 55 double-page maps and multilingual explanatory texts, covering physical geography, population, economy, transport, education, and more. It is praised for its high technical quality and national significance, serving both academic and propaganda purposes. The second reviews J. Büdel's study on glacial and recent weathering and denudation in non-glaciated parts of Central Europe, which quantitatively distinguishes periglacial solifluction from recent soil creep. Büdel concludes that significant climate-driven solifluction occurred during the last ice age, while deep soil creep is absent today; however, the landscape remains active through chemical denudation, surface wash, and linear erosion.
