This review examines the Atlas of the Socialist Republic of Romania (published 1972-1979, comprising 76 plates). The atlas represents a splendid achievement by Romanian geographers, continuing the tradition of Emmanuel de Martonne. Its conception follows the classic model of national atlases, covering geology, relief, climate, hydrology, soils, vegetation, population, industry, agriculture, transport, and other themes. All legends and commentaries are provided in four languages—Romanian, French, English, and Russian—facilitating international use. The technical execution is flawless, with fine drafting, harmonious colors, and dot maps enabling precise analysis. Particular attention is given to neotectonic, karst, and hydrological maps, reflecting the distinctive research interests of Romanian geography. The atlas holds high technical and academic value.
