The article reports on the preparation and official recognition of the Atlas of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria. Building on the two-volume Geography of Bulgaria, the atlas was completed over five years through the collaboration of leading Bulgarian geographers and cartographers and received both domestic acclaim and international recognition. In 1974, chief editor Z. S. Galybov and six other prominent scholars were awarded Bulgaria’s State Dimitrov Prize for this major scientific achievement. The award ceremony coincided with the thirtieth anniversary of Bulgaria’s socialist revolution, underscoring the atlas’s significance for national geography, cartography, and socialist scientific development. Soviet national committees of geographers and cartographers concluded by congratulating their Bulgarian colleagues.
