This article introduces the background, content structure, and publication progress of the Atlas of the Slovak Socialist Republic. Compiled by the Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Slovak Office of Geodesy and Cartography, the atlas aims to comprehensively depict the current state and developmental potential of natural and socio-economic elements across Slovakia at a basic scale of 1:500,000. It comprises 830 maps organized into 15 thematic chapters covering geology, geomorphology, climate, hydrology, soils, biota, population, economy, services, environment, and landscape potential, accompanied by a text annex in Slovak, Russian, and English. Serving both national and regional atlas functions, the work represents a major achievement in Slovak geography and cartography, with chapters published separately from 1977 and a complete bound edition planned for 1980.
