Summary

Werner Witt reviews the ninth installment of the Atlas of Switzerland (1978), which adds seven sheets on history, agriculture, education, and topographic mapping, together with four transparent place-name maps. It completes sixteen years of work on the 96-plate atlas. Witt praises editor-in-chief E. Imhof and the institutions responsible for cartographic preparation and printing. While acknowledging possible reader preferences for synthesis maps or a stronger problem orientation, he ranks it first among comparably sized atlases as a model of methodological rigor, precision of representation, and cartographic production quality.
