Summary

The National Atlas of Spain (ANE) comprises 24 topics grouped into 9 parts, designed through collaboration between a scientific network and a multidisciplinary team. While structurally solid, it can be rigid; thus, continuous revision introduces new content and modern approaches. This paper examines transversal themes using case studies of same-sex couples and gender equality. By recording gender variables in the content management tool (DefineANE) and adding markers in the graphic resource registry, the ANE enhances thematic flexibility. The atlas has been adopted by Spain's Ministry of Equality for its third equality plan, serving as a decision-making tool. Future efforts aim to compile gender-sensitive resources into a monographic atlas, supporting inclusive and socially sustainable policies.
