Summary

This paper by Emil Mazúr discusses regional syntheses in the Atlas of the Slovak Socialist Republic, following up on his earlier introduction published in Geogr. Čas. in 1972. The atlas, the first comprehensive cartographic work on Slovak territory, uses base scales of 1:500,000 or 1:750,000. Its structure goes beyond traditional analytical maps to emphasize regional synthesis. The atlas comprises 15 chapters covering physical-geographic and socio-economic elements, totaling 74 sheets with 866 maps and 270 insets and graphs. The author highlights that, except for the first two chapters, each analytical chapter concludes with synthesizing maps; Chapter 8 (physical-geographic units) and Chapter 14 (economic-geographic units) offer holistic views, while the final chapter addresses territorial potential and environment. Eleven chapters had been published by the time of writing, with full completion expected by year-end.
