Summary

This is an academic review of the Atlas of the Ukrainian and Moldavian SSR, published in Moscow in 1962. The atlas is part of a series of regional geographic atlases issued for individual Soviet republics, compiled by a team led by Academician V. G. Bondarchuk, director of the Geological Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. The review notes that while the atlas is graphically careful and aesthetically pleasing, it has significant shortcomings: population and industry maps are too few and inadequately presented, historical comparison maps and thematic problem-oriented maps are lacking, economic maps contain methodological flaws, and the proportion of content is imbalanced. The reviewer concludes that the atlas presents the natural and economic conditions of the two republics far too modestly, insufficiently relative to reality, and is inferior to the Armenian atlas in the same series.
