Newsletter ICA Commission on Atlases 01/2026

Summary

The Spring 2026 newsletter of the ICA Commission on Atlases announces EuroCarto 2026 in Brno (9–11 September) and a joint workshop with the ICA Peace and Conflict Cartography Working Group on atlases as learning tools in higher education; it also solicits ideas for the Commission’s workshop at the forthcoming ICC in Warsaw, including a possible focus on national atlases. It surveys recent atlas initiatives, including updated and printed sections of the National Atlas of Spain, the digital Visualising Conflict/Peace Atlas, Czech dialect mapping, a centenary atlas of Würzburg geography, Ukrainian atlases of settlement and heritage, and atlases produced by Georgia’s Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography. A historical feature reassesses the 1966 Atlas of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic as a major scientific, cultural, and ideological work, while the editors invite notices about new publications, projects, exhibitions, events, and digital or historical atlases for the next issue.
