Summary

In 1989, the Geographical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences published a new edition of the National Atlas of Hungary, nearly two decades after the first. Initiated in 1983 under Professor Marton Pécsi, over 200 researchers contributed to this 395-page volume, featuring numerous color plates and 100 pages of bilingual (Hungarian-English) commentary. Covering physical geography, population, economy, and regional planning, the atlas offers a comprehensive view of Hungary's geography. While some detailed maps require careful reading and the treatment of border changes and Hungarian communities abroad (e.g., in Romania) is cautious, it remains an invaluable reference work.
