Summary

National atlases provide fundamental information on the entire geographical environment of a country or its individual regions, including the natural environment, the state of society and the economy, and the causes and consequences of changes in these. Maps and map series can depict the relationships among diverse phenomena and their quantitative and qualitative interconnections in the most illustrative way, presenting them more clearly than any written description. It has therefore become common practice for many countries around the world to publish their national atlases and periodically updated editions.
