Summary

This review evaluates the Nuevo Atlas de España, published by Aguilar in Madrid in 1961. The atlas comprises 455 pages, including 500 maps, over 900 illustrations, and an index of 50,000 place names. Its content is organized into five sections: statistical data (up to 1959), 77 thematic maps (covering geology, climate, agriculture, population, transportation, etc.), 41 historical maps, physical maps of the Iberian Peninsula and its sub-regions, and double-page political maps of the 54 provinces. The reviewer praises its rich content and fine printing, but notes shortcomings such as overly small scales for some maps, the absence of detailed hydrographic and settlement maps, and terrain being obscured in political maps. Overall, the atlas serves as a comprehensive and vivid reference for regional studies of Spain.
