Summary
This review assesses the second series of the Atlas of Australian Resources, produced by Australia’s Division of National Mapping between 1960 and 1977. Comprising 30 maps with 28-page commentaries, the atlas portrays the continent at 1:6,000,000 while presenting densely populated and intensively used southeastern regions at larger scales. Successive revisions and newly designed sheets, including those on natural vegetation and major urban areas, reflect updated geographical knowledge. The reviewer highlights the atlas’s outstanding cartographic and printing quality and notes that the emerging third series will introduce further innovations to maintain an up-to-date representation of Australia.
