Summary

This article presents the scope, collaborative production, and scholarly significance of the Atlas of Senegal. Forty Senegalese and French researchers worked for four years, with sustained governmental and academic support, to produce sixty-five plates and more than one hundred maps. Integrating history, geography, anthropology, ethnology, politics, sociology, economics, and culture, the volume provides detailed commentaries and a comprehensive spatial and historical representation of Senegal. It is therefore characterized not merely as an atlas, but as a distinctive and authoritative national monograph.
